Dr. Daniel Stotz, internationally recognized teacher and performer was born and raised in Eugene, Oregon, and has lived in the Phoenix area since 2002. He studied the double bass with Gary Karr, Dr. Daniel Swaim, and Catalin Rotaru, developing equal facility in both orchestral and solo performance. He received his Doctorate of Musical Arts and Master’s degree in double bass performance from Arizona State University, and holds an additional performance degree from the University of Oregon.
Since his debut performance with Gary Karr at age seventeen, Dr. Stotz has performed extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest, and Victoria, British Columbia. He is currently Principal double bass with the West Valley Symphony (Phoenix, Arizona), and the Arizona Broadway Theatre, and remains an active teacher and clinician throughout the Southwest. In the past, he has performed with numerous professional orchestras, ballet, and opera companies, including: the Oregon Mozart Players, Eugene Symphony, Yaquina Bay Symphony, Oregon Festival of American Music, Corvallis Symphony, Phoenix Symphony, and the Bolshoi Ballet Company.
Additionally, Dr. Stotz is an active composer and arranger for the double bass, with his revised edition of Joseph Prunner’s: Progressive Studies for the Double Bass Vol.1 and Vol. 2, being published by MMHC Music Publications. Visit DanielStotz.com for more information.
